- ➤ A Valencia High School student, 17, was arrested on campus Wednesday morning in connection with the April 28 explosion in a Saugus neighborhood—after more than 50 reports of illegal fireworks near Plum Canyon Park over several months, another teen was detained on $75,000 bail. Hometown Station

- ➤ Santa Clarita was chosen as the first stop for Drum Corps International’s national tour — the city will host the DCI Gold Showcase on July 9 at College of the Canyons Cougar Stadium — where 12 drum corps will perform for over 5,000 people, and special workshops for local students will add extra value. - ➤ Santa Clarita will offer many events in the coming days including the Newhallywood Silent Film Festival from May 23–25 at Newhall Community Center and a portrait art show by Ezra Turin running from May 23 until June 29 at Canyon Theater Guild. Other planned activities include a theater production of Wild Dust, community nature programs, farm visits at Gilchrist Farm, and local sports and car show events through the end of May. - ➤ Scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 31, the WiSH Upon a Car Showcase will be held in the Citrus Street parking lot at Valencia Town Center to raise funds for student programs in the William S. Hart Union High School District. The family-friendly event will feature a diverse car show, live music by Brass Cadillac, vendor booths, food trucks and a bar for adults 21 and older—registration is $30 by May 29 or $45 on site, with entrance at $5 per person and free admission for kids under 5.
