  • The West Ranch High School track and field team held its fourth annual Run With Dogs event on Sunday, May 17 at the Santa Clarita Valley Animal Care Center in Castaic to help socialize shelter dogs and boost their adoption chances (dogs included Bonnie, MJ and Shyla).  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • The Newhallywood Silent Film Festival will run from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24 at the Newhall Family Theatre and The MAIN in Old Town Newhall. The three-day event features centennial film screenings, induction ceremonies and a guided tour of Hollywood Forever Cemetery.  Hometown Station
  • Ace Cain, the Sand Canyon resort owner who once ran Rocky Springs Country Club and had a colorful past from film roles to bootlegging, died in Saugus at 69 on May 18, 1973. He left a legacy in local community life through his service as Mint Canyon Lions Club president.  Hometown Station
  • Santa Clarita Symphony Orchestra will present ‘Dances the World Over’ at Canyon High School Performing Arts Center on Sunday, June 7 at 4 p.m. The live concert will showcase cultural dances with musical pieces by Coleridge-Taylor, Mozart, Strauss, and Copland — a celebration of diverse traditions.  SCVNews.com

  • The William S. Hart Union High School District’s Board will meet in open session on Wednesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. and host its annual retiree recognition at 6:15 p.m. where family and friends are welcome.  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita Valley Water + ACWA announced today that Fresno State student Victor Ilias Fraga has been awarded the 2026 Edward G. ‘Jerry’ Gladbach Scholarship; the $5,000 grant honors his achievements in plant science, agricultural business and water studies.  SCVNews.com
  • Thirty-two students from Golden Oak Adult School received their high school diplomas at William S. Hart High School on Friday — only 19 walked the stage as they balanced work and family tasks, and principal Bryan Wilson noted their success inspires loved ones.  Hometown Station

SPORTS NEWS

  • Two of the five Foothill League baseball teams in the CIF Southern Section playoffs won their Round 1 games and will play in Round 2 tomorrow.  SCVNews.com
  • Four Santa Clarita school baseball teams remain in the playoffs after first-round wins. Today, Saugus plays at 3:30 p.m. in San Marino, Golden Valley and Trinity host games at 3:15 p.m., and Santa Clarita Christian School faces Duarte at 7 p.m.  Hometown Station
  • Saugus and Hart players earned top honors in the All-Foothill League this season as Amelia Johnson from Saugus was named Player of the Year plus Hart’s Gabriella Kobliska received the Pitcher of the Year title.   • Friday, West Ranch baseball lost 8-3 at home in a playoff game against the Warren Bears when the Bears scored seven runs in the final two innings. Coach Trevor Brown said the loss ended the Wildcats' championship season despite strong early plays.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
