The Canyon Coyotes 4‑H Club recently honored 16‑year‑old Luc Hauptman by presenting him with the Chris Carroll Award for his outstanding service and leadership in the club—recognizing his four‑year commitment and roles including president.

Hauptman and his parents later joined Carroll’s family for dinner—honoring a legacy of community service and dedication.

The Samuel Dixon Family Health Center will host its 3rd Annual Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at Lucky Luke Brewing Company in Santa Clarita.

The tournament will raise funds to support local mental health programs—helping the center expand its services as demand grows.

Santa Clarita hosts many events as SENSES Block Party Spy Games kicks off today at 7 p.m. on Main Street in Old Town Newhall & the Bike to Work Challenge runs through today with pit stops from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. The California Strawberry Festival, Super Jazz at the Ranch, Mission Opera Bella Notte and the Old Town Newhall Art Walk are set for May 17th and later & local organizers are offering live music, food and cultural shows.

Local professionals will launch a Backpack Drive during the May Business After Hours Mixer, hosted by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce at Henry Rodriguez’s Office (5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) on May 21 to support Canyon High students and SCV Foster Youth by collecting filled backpacks (for the 2025–26 school year) with donations accepted through July 31.

Finally Family Homes in Santa Clarita won the 2024 Aging Out Institute Flame Award - a recognition that came with a $40,000 grant to support housing and life skills training for youth aging out of foster care.

SCVi students sent an agriculture experiment using bambusa tulda to the International Space Station on April 21 at 1:15 a.m. and celebrated their work at an award ceremony on May 8 in Castaic—local leaders noted that the project builds skills for future aerospace careers.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Santa Clarita City Council approved Serrano Development Group’s controversial Newhall mixed-use project — a plan that lowers the historic preservation fee to $300,000 to help fund a new southern Main Street parking structure and sets conditions for preserving parts of the demolished Masonic Lodge — following weeks of heated community debate and protests.
