  • Residents of Belcaro Valencia 55+ community raised fire safety concerns during a Santa Clarita City Council meeting on Apr. 28. They are urging city, Edison, and county officials to develop a comprehensive fire protection plan before peak wildfire season, citing limited evacuation routes and high fire risk.  Hometown Station

  • Bowman High held its 33rd annual Day of the Artist and Poet festival on Thursday, showcasing live student poetry readings and an outdoor art gallery tied to the 'Broken & Beautiful' anthology. HEALTH NEWS

  • Marlee Lauffer, head of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation and VP of Marketing and Communications, announced her retirement effective June 19.   • The California Department of Public Health updated the state's WIC benefits today by expanding food options such as whole grains, yogurt, plant-based milk and canned fish to support healthier families.   • The California Department of Public Health is monitoring four Californians exposed to the Andes hantavirus after a cruise ship outbreak aboard the MV Hondius.   • Five local softball teams begin CIF-SS playoffs on May 14 and 15, with Saugus versus Brea Olinda at Saugus High School and West Ranch, Valencia, Hart, and Santa Clarita Christian playing on the road. Each team aims to build on a strong season to make a deep run.  Hometown Station
