X.X. 'Skip' Newhall, the great-great grandson of Henry Mayo Newhall, died Sunday at 87—he spent nearly 40 years at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and worked on early community projects.

Santa Clarita announced SENSES Block Party themes through September that will be held on Main Street in Old Town Newhall from 7-10 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month—event themes include Spy Games on May 15, Date Night on June 19, Fandomania on July 17, Caribbean Nights on Aug. 21 and Oktoberfest on Sept. 18.

Registration is open for the Santa Clarita Valley Fourth of July Parade + standard entries close on June 15 with late entries accepted until June 22 with a fee.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 4 in Newhall and honor the city's new Hart Park as it travels along Main Street, Lyons Avenue, Orchard Village Road and ends on Dalbey Drive at Avenida Ignacio.
