- ➤ X.X. 'Skip' Newhall, the great-great grandson of Henry Mayo Newhall, died Sunday at 87—he spent nearly 40 years at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and worked on early community projects. The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
- ➤ Santa Clarita announced SENSES Block Party themes through September that will be held on Main Street in Old Town Newhall from 7-10 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month—event themes include Spy Games on May 15, Date Night on June 19, Fandomania on July 17, Caribbean Nights on Aug. 21 and Oktoberfest on Sept. 18. - ➤ Registration is open for the Santa Clarita Valley Fourth of July Parade + standard entries close on June 15 with late entries accepted until June 22 with a fee. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 4 in Newhall and honor the city's new Hart Park as it travels along Main Street, Lyons Avenue, Orchard Village Road and ends on Dalbey Drive at Avenida Ignacio. - ➤ Co-owner Carl Goldman of KHTS radio agreed with the Main Street developer on a plan to move the station next door and build a new studio with better soundproofing to reduce construction noise—city approval is needed at Tuesday’s 6 p.m. meeting. - ➤ The California Department of Public Health has set a mussel quarantine order effective May 1 through Oct. 31 to warn people against eating recreationally harvested mussels from the coast, including all parts of Los Angeles County — the advisory does not apply to commercial shellfish from approved sources.
