Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo’s Chiquita Canyon Tax Relief Act advanced out of the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation; the bill would exempt funds received by residents for disaster relief at the Chiquita Canyon Landfill — in Val Verde, Castaic and Santa Clarita — from state taxes and from counting against benefits like CalFresh. It now moves to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for further review.
