  • Chick-fil-A is opening a new restaurant on Magic Mountain Parkway in Santa Clarita today — located at 27430 The Old Road with a drive-thru and walk-up window — and will donate $25,000 to Feeding America while honoring 100 local heroes with free entrees for a year.  Hometown Station

  • Alexander Weatherman, a West Ranch High School senior, earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award Lifetime Achievement Award on May 7 for completing over 4,000 hours of community service — a national honor recognizing his long-term volunteer work.   • Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo advanced the Chiquita Canyon Tax Relief Act today—this bill would let residents near the landfill disaster in Val Verde, Castaic, and Santa Clarita receive help without facing state taxes or losing benefits like CalFresh. SPORTS NEWS

  • At the Foothill League track finals held last week at College of the Canyons, Canyon High senior Lanai Gant broke the girls’ 400-meter dash record with a time of 54.41 seconds, beating the previous mark held by alumnae Alysia Johnson. Canyon senior Nathan Hernandez became the first pole vaulter to win three league championships—Castaic senior Monty Coleman tied the high jump record and Golden Valley senior Kiera Donovan won both the discus and shot put as teams prepare for CIF Division 2 preliminaries.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita high school baseball teams ended their regular season with key league titles as West Ranch won its first Foothill League crown since 2016 and Trinity Classical Academy secured its fourth straight Heritage League win with an undefeated record.   • Saugus High softball team is ranked 46th in the CIF-SS power rankings after a win of 16 to 0 over Castaic and holds a 23 to 4 record with a 13-game winning streak— the only team from Santa Clarita Valley in the top 100. They will enter the playoffs on May 17.  Hometown Station
