- ➤ Rancho Camulos National Historic Landmark (the beloved venue) will host a fundraising concert featuring Old Dawgs, New Tricks on Sunday, May 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will raise funds at this historic site. SCVNews.com
- ➤ On May 5, 1828, John Lang was born in Herkimer County and later settled in Soledad Canyon, where he built an estate that included Lang's Station and, in 1875, famously killed a giant grizzly bear that had terrorized locals. Hometown Station
- ➤ The city film office announced that four projects will film in Santa Clarita Valley from May 4 to May 10, including Netflix’s documentary series This Blew Up (which examines social media-driven downfalls), a State Farm commercial, WAWW and the student film Lemon Season. Hometown Station
- ➤ Placerita Canyon Nature Center Associates and LA County Parks and Recreation will host Books & Hikes to discuss Kate Marianchild's book (The Secrets of the Oak Woodlands: Plants and Animals Among California’s Oaks) at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 17 at the Acorn Amphitheater. SCVNews.com

- ➤ William S. Hart Union High School District announced that 16 students earned the California State Seal of Civic Engagement by completing projects on community challenges (including housing and food insecurity) at Hart, Saugus, Valencia, and Golden Valley High Schools. - ➤ Saugus Union School District announced Tuesday that Superintendent Dr. Colleen Hawkins began her leave of absence effective immediately (no reason was given) until incoming Superintendent Dr. Robert Hernandez takes over on July 1 with Jennifer Stevenson serving as acting superintendent. - ➤ Kelly Galbo was appointed Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital on May 4. Galbo previously led acute care operations at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and will work to improve patient care in our community. Hometown Station
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Friday afternoon, West Ranch and Castaic closed out league play with wins that gave them a share of the Foothill League title. West Ranch secured its second title while Castaic earned its first championship + Coach Darrell Davis is retiring, and the CIF-SS playoff schedule will be released Saturday. Hometown Station
- ➤ The College of the Canyons track & field team competed at the 3C2A Southern California Regional Prelims on May 2 at Bakersfield College, and several student-athletes advanced to weekend regional finals heats. SCVNews.com
- ➤ College of the Canyons softball rallied on May 2 to eliminate Cerritos College and advance to the Super Regional round; they will face Saddleback College in a best-of-three series starting May 8. SCVNews.com
- ➤ College of the Canyons sophomore Nicole Lerma placed 13th in the 1M dive at the 3C2A Swim & Dive State Championships on April 30 at Orange Coast College (she became the first diver in over a decade to compete at the event). SCVNews.com
