  • Santa Clarita will host a community hike at Gates Family Wildlife Preserve on Saturday, May 2 at 9 a.m. Residents can join to enjoy nature & exercise together.  SCVNews.com
  • Crews began marking fields at Central Park on Thursday for the 15th Annual KHTS Home + Garden Show, which will run tomorrow and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event will feature more than 450 vendors and a Saturday Emergency Expo.  Hometown Station

  • A brush fire dubbed the Isaac Fire broke out north of Castaic Lake yesterday near the west ramp around 1:45 p.m. and burned about half an acre of light brush — officials said.  Hometown Station

  • Families in Santa Clarita will celebrate Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros on Saturday, April 25 at the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library Branch from 10 a.m. to noon — the event offers interactive craft stations and live local performances to celebrate culture and literacy for children.  SCVNews.com
  • The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is hosting a logo contest for the re-launch of Friday Night Flickers — a movie night with films highlighting local sites.   • Community members met Robert Hernandez, the new superintendent of Saugus Union School District, on Thursday morning to learn about his plans for better communication and school improvement.   • Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital held a flag-raising ceremony last Thursday on its front lawn for National Donate Life Month, where hospital leaders thanked staff for helping save six lives, and transplant recipient Raul Sansores shared his transplant journey + hope.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • The College of the Canyons’ champion women's cross country team was named a 3C2A Scholar Team recipient for the 2024-25 academic year — the award honors both their athletic success and academic effort.  SCVNews.com
  • On Wednesday, Valencia Boys Golf won the Foothill League championship with a 391 final score — West Ranch’s Tyler Sonnenberg earned MVP honors.   • College of the Canyons women’s tennis player Emma Chodur was named Western State Conference Player of the Year after posting a perfect 19-0 record (winning the singles championship) while teammates Baylee Renfro and Lauren Neal earned All-WSC honors.  SCVNews.com
