  • Shadow and Midnight are two large Black Mouth Cur dogs ready for adoption at the Castaic Animal Care Center at 31044 N. Charlie Canyon Road. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and hopes to find the pups caring homes soon.  Hometown Station
  • The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley will hold its 54th Annual Benefit Auction, La Dolce Vita, on Saturday, June 6 at the SCV Senior Center — Bella Vida, where guests can bid on unique experiences and enjoy a seated dinner to support youth programs.  SCVNews.com

  • A child suffering a medical emergency — after a seizure at The Learning Center on Copper Hill Drive in Valencia — was airlifted by fire department responders from West Creek Park to Northridge Hospital Friday morning.  Hometown Station

  • Mercedes-Benz of Valencia won the Mercedes National Award yesterday for exceptional service and customer satisfaction after just one year in Santa Clarita. General manager Shawn Kahn said the team will continue striving to win the award again next year.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • Old Town Newhall hosted a Walk of Western Stars ceremony on Thursday with community officials and local families unveiling bronze plaques honoring film stunt legends Gary Combs and the Happy Family. The event celebrated their contributions to Western storytelling along Main Street.  Hometown Station
  • The Senses Block Party returned on Thursday, April 16 in Old Town Newhall with a western theme that featured ax throwing, horseshoe toss and live country music. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Registration is open for the Include Everyone Project SCV’s ‘The Magic Within’ Summer Camp, the valley’s only adaptive performing arts camp. It offers a Junior Stars session from June 15-19 and a Stars session from June 22-26 culminating in a public performance at Newhall Family Theater (space is limited).  SCVNews.com
  • College of the Canyons held a ceremony Thursday to rename its Institute for Culinary Education building as the Diana and Gary Cusumano Culinary Arts Building (COC) to honor a $1 million gift from the Cusumano family. The event launched new funds for culinary arts students.  Hometown Station

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • EPA ordered Chiquita Canyon Landfill to build a soil buttress and upgrade its leachate treatment system after a March 5 inspection found potential slope failure at the site. The orders given on March 17 aim to resume leachate pump operations and prevent further leaks near the landfill.  SCVNews.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital will celebrate National Volunteer Week from April 19-25 by honoring over 300 volunteers—adults, teens, canine and one bird—who support patients and staff.
