  • Memorial services for longtime Santa Clarita attorney Richard Patterson, who died April 6 of natural causes at age 81, will be held Tuesday, April 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (24443 McBean Parkway) in Valencia, with a public viewing from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a funeral service at 1 p.m. and a graveside service at 3 p.m.  Hometown Station

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Apr. 12, 1928, one month after the deadly dam disaster, the Los Angeles Times published a coroner’s jury verdict ruling that the St. Francis Dam collapse deaths were accidental — citing engineering and policy failures.  Hometown Station

  • Santa Clarita will host its 30th Cowboy Festival at William S. Hart Park on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring 15 entertainers and food vendors (free admission).   • Santa Clarita trails offer a chance to roam and enjoy nature, and Dallas Cruz, the city's recreation coordinator, urges visitors to stay on designated paths, pack out trash, and respect wildlife (including rattlesnakes) to protect the fragile ecosystem.
