  • Child & Family Center’s 37th Taste of the Town food and wine fest will be held Sunday, May 3 at SoCal Innovation Park in Valencia. Over 1,000 attendees can enjoy unlimited gourmet tastings, live music by Mark LeVang and Friends, and auction items that support local mental health services.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Our Community Salutes hosted by the Kiwanis Club will honor high school seniors enlisting in the U.S. Armed Forces on May 16 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, with a free reception starting at 1:00 p.m.—the ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m.  Hometown Station
  • Santa Clarita invites residents and visitors to enjoy the free Celebrate series at Canyon Country Community Center (18410 Sierra Highway) on the second Friday of each month from April through September, with live music, dance, hands-on activities and authentic cuisines showcasing different cultures each time.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita hosts a variety of events this week. On Saturday, April 11, a free drive-thru hazardous waste collection is set at College of the Canyons, while on Sunday, April 12, SCV Soroptimist International holds a Wine Affair in Old Town Newhall with tastings + live music.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Santa Clarita Choral Association will mark its 40th anniversary with a choral festival on Tuesday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church—featuring over 15 ensembles from junior high to college choirs.  Hometown Station
  • Students participated in a vibrant Holi-inspired color run hosted by the College of the Canyons Intercultural Center on March 31; over 75 runners completed the 0.6-mile course from Honor Grove to Cougar Den with samosas, chai, and mango lassi served beforehand.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On March 24, the 38th annual CIF Southern Section — Ford Academic Awards recognized 12 local student-athletes from six high schools for meeting academic and athletic standards. The awards honored students with at least a 3.5 GPA over three years and varsity participation, marking a milestone in local academic achievement.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is warning Santa Clarita drivers to stay focused by keeping hands on the wheel and avoiding phone use (even at red lights) to help prevent accidents.  SCVNews.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • County public health officials reported a record 220 flea-borne typhus cases on April 8 and urged Santa Clarita residents to use flea control on their pets (and avoid stray animals) to reduce the risk of infection.  Hometown Station
  • Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and AFC Urgent Care clinics announced a partnership to expand same-day care at their Valencia and Canyon Country locations. The collaboration aims to enhance care coordination + expand access to convenient, trusted health services for local residents.  Hometown Station
  • A rideshare passenger walking on SR-14 was detained Tuesday night by CHP after the driver called at 9:30 p.m.; officers closed lanes and took him to a nearby hospital for a mental health hold (5150 Welfare and Institutions Code) near Agua Dulce Canyon Road.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
