  • Santa Clarita residents can join Tree-mendous Arbor Day, a free, family-friendly celebration of nature at Valencia Heritage Park (24155 Newhall Ranch Road) on Saturday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree planting led by City Council members and live demonstrations including chainsaw carving and hydrogen-powered bus showcases.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita hosts a packed slate of events this week: Easter services at Freedom’s Way Baptist Church on April 5, a jazz set at The MAIN on April 4 from 2 to 4 p.m., and a resume refresh lab at College of the Canyons on April 7 (Building X6).  Hometown Station

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Woodward Inc. will move its servo-hydraulic control valves production to Illinois over the next 12 to 18 months, affecting 300 jobs. The company said the shift, aimed at boosting efficiency + customer delivery, will allow it to continue producing other aerospace controls in Santa Clarita.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • The 30th Anniversary Cowboy Festival runs Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at William S. Hart Park. It offers free events with VIP options, a line dance competition on April 11, and guided film tours on April 19 plus an evening dance program.  SCVNews.com
  • Families and children participated in the inaugural Art Hop at Hart Park on Saturday, Mar. 28, enjoying an Egg Scramble with six time slots + art booths amid spring festivities.   • Valencia High School music students attended a live Los Angeles Philharmonic performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall yesterday (April 1), gaining insight into the skills and teamwork needed for successful musical careers.  Hometown Station

  • Santa Clarita father Jaime Puerta lost his 16-year-old son to a fentanyl-laced pill and now champions a bill to reschedule xylazine (a veterinary tranquilizer used to cut drugs) for stricter regulation. The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the measure last week.  Hometown Station
  • CHP is urging drivers to follow the state’s hands-free cellphone law during Distracted Driving Awareness Month, with a 24-hour enforcement period starting at 6 a.m. April 28 to help keep roads safe in Santa Clarita.  SCVNews.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Saugus Centurions won a four-set match against Golden Valley Tuesday at Saugus High School — they now hold a 6-2 record in league play. The team will face the unbeaten Valencia Vikings today at 5:30 p.m.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Saugus Centurions won their first Foothill League match since 2012 by beating West Ranch by seven strokes in the third round of the boys' golf tournament at the Oaks Club on Tuesday while West Ranch’s Tyler Sonnenberg kept a 72 and the team will tackle match four after break.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Hart Hawks recorded a 10-2 road win over the Castaic Coyotes, with Hannah Cook (3-5 with a home run) and freshman Naima Melendez (4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs) leading the team; upcoming home games will continue the season, with other league scores also reported from Tuesday’s contests.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • Baseball heats up as Hart wins game one in Foothill League play at Golden Valley Tuesday and will finish the series Thursday at 3:30 p.m. — meanwhile, SCCS tops the Heritage League with a four-game win streak and will try for a sweep today at Faith Baptist.  Hometown Station
  • The Saugus Centurions rallied to win 3-2 over the West Ranch Wildcats after Abraham Ramirez drove in the game-winning run with a walk-off single in the seventh inning at Saugus High School.
