COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Santa Clarita Aquatic Center will host the 15th Annual Splash N’ Dash on Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m. in the Waterslide Pool, presented by Kaiser Permanente (20850 Centre Pointe Parkway) as a family-friendly splash celebration.  SCVNews.com
  • The Santa Clarita Veteran Services Collaborative will host a free Easter egg hunt for veterans and their families at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6885 in Canyon Country on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.; families must RSVP in advance due to limited space.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Family-friendly events energize the weekend. On Saturday, March 28, join Art Hop from 10:00 a.m. + 2:00 p.m. at Hart Park, Vine2Wine at SCV Senior Center at 5:30 p.m., and recycle tires at the Metrolink Station from 9 a.m. + 3 p.m.; concerts, theatre, and nature walks are also planned.  Hometown Station
  • The SCV Senior Center will celebrate its 50th Anniversary with its Golden Gala event on Saturday, Apr. 25 at the Bella Vida Courtyard and Grand Ballroom. Guests will enjoy live music from College of the Canyons, a catered dinner, and a live auction with tickets starting at $250.  SCVNews.com
  • The Old West DeMolay chapter donated over $140 to the SCV Food Pantry on March 4 after raising funds from a Masonic Lodge dinner and food drive night. The gift helps ease food insecurity and homelessness in Santa Clarita.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • On March 25, 1923, John Ford’s film '3 Jumps Ahead' was released and shot in Santa Clarita (including action scenes at Beale’s Cut). The silent western is now lost, leaving only a few frames to mark its place in early film history.  Hometown Station

  • Gas prices in Santa Clarita continue rising today as drivers pay between $5.63 at Conserv Fuel and over $6.09 at Chevron — AAA reports diesel may top $7.07 amid high fuel taxes, stricter cleaner fuel blends and global oil pressures.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Tuesday’s meeting, council postponed a second reading of proposed oak-tree ordinance changes after receiving a legal threat letter from local environmental advocates, prompting staff to reexamine amendments easing removal of protected oaks — affecting up to 10,000 trees.   • Kristin Jordan, PA-C joined Henry Mayo Newhall OB-GYN and Primary Care offices in Valencia on March 25 at 9:37 a.m. — a long-time Santa Clarita resident with 15 years of clinical experience in women’s health — and patients can now schedule appointments with her.  Hometown Station

SPORTS NEWS

  • Saugus leads the Foothill League in boys lacrosse with an undefeated record and will rebound Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Dos Pueblos; West Ranch (one game behind) will play Castaic Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.  Hometown Station
  • Saugus softball defeated West Ranch 11-8 in extra innings on Tuesday, Mar. 24 at West Ranch High School. The Centurions rallied with a seven-run fifth inning and four-run eighth inning, with coach Kyle Mark praising the team's adjustments.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Saugus Centurions won 11-6 over the Canyon Cowboys to secure their fifth league win and seventh overall, and they will host the Valencia Vikings at 3 p.m. today.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • College of the Canyons’ softball team beat L.A. Mission College 7-4 on March 17 and then won 6-2 in the second game of a doubleheader at Santa Ana College on March 18. The Cougars showed strong hitting — a three-run home run by Jordan Shepherd helped secure the victories.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Valencia boys’ volleyball team swept the West Ranch Wildcats on Tuesday at West Ranch High School, winning 25-18, 25-20, 26-24 as head coach Brendan Riley noted he was experimenting with the lineup to give players more court time.
