  • Anthony Cervello, director at a local insurance firm, leaves home as a devoted family man but quickly turns impulsive behind the wheel near schools + parks.   • Canyon High School Drama presents a bold production of 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' from March 26-28 at 7 p.m. at the Canyon Performing Arts Center in Canyon Country, where tickets are $10 for adults & $5 for students.  SCVNews.com
  • Valencia High junior Brooklyn Covington earned a $5,000 cash prize for her tap solo on 'Uptown Funk' at The Music Center's 'Spotlight' showcase at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in May; she credits Studio 1 Dance Academy (and Mandy Dray) for their support.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Santa Clarita's first-ever Art Hop is planned for Saturday, Mar. 28 at William S. Hart Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—its events include a community hike, youth art exhibit, live student performances, diverse art activities and a timed egg scramble for children 10 and younger that requires advance registration.  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita’s L.A. North Studios hosted the filming of the Oscar-winning One Battle After Another between January and July 2024, becoming the first facility to produce a Best Picture winner.   • School and law enforcement officials warned parents that the annual Senior Assassin game (now using a new app) raised safety concerns because water guns mimicking real firearms may be mistaken.   • Edison International launched the 2026 Lineworker Scholarship (in partnership with IBEW Local 47) to offer up to $25,000 each to 12 students enrolling in the Powerline Worker certificate program at Los Angeles Trade-Tech College; applications are open to eligible California residents until Friday, May 8.  SCVNews.com
  • Bowman High School was named a California Model Continuation High School by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, showing its strength in alternative education.   • Santa Clarita Valley residents can now talk with a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy virtually at the SCV Sheriff's Station, allowing safe connections from home. The service is available now.  SCVNews.com
  • The Santa Clarita Community College District’s Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee accepted an unmodified audit by Eide Bailly that confirmed $14.5M in Measure E funds were spent properly in 2024‑25 — no adjustments or concerns were found and new oversight procedures were approved.  Hometown Station

HEALTH NEWS

  • Caregivers and survivors gathered for the third annual Survivor and Caregiver Celebration Dinner at Canyon Country Community Center on Saturday, March 14.   • Master’s University men’s and women’s golf teams finished second and third at the TMU Spring Invite held March 16-17 at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc. The teams will next compete at The Battle in Primm.  SCVNews.com
  • College of the Canyons softball team recorded its first conference win with a 7-4 road victory at L.A. Mission College on Tuesday, March 17 when Jordan Shepherd’s pinch hit home run in the sixth sparked three runs.  SCVNews.com
  • Hart and Valencia finished their Foothill League game with a 10-10 tie on Wednesday after a late rally in the seventh inning and the game was stopped due to darkness (extra innings were not played). The teams will resume the series on Friday at 3:30 p.m.  Hometown Station
