  • Newhall Rotary Community Foundation donated over $13,000 for 2025-26 to support local scholarships at College of the Canyons, youth independence, and the Santa Clarita Grocery Food Bank, and it also issued a $5,000 grant for medical equipment for a center in Armenia (with funds from the SCV Rotary Morning Club).  SCVNews.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Santa Clarita Arts Commission will meet on Thursday, Mar. 12 at 6 p.m. to review the Arts Master Plan 2035 (and discuss options for temporary public art trailhead sculptures).  SCVNews.com
  • The city will host the Art Hop Egg Scramble on Saturday, March 28 at William S. Hart Park in Newhall. Kids 10 and under must register in advance to join timed hunts and receive a goody bag (free registration required) as part of the event.  SCVNews.com
  • The Santa Clarita Film Office listed nine productions filming in the valley between Monday, March 9 and Sunday, March 15. ECONOMY NEWS

  • City Manager Ken Striplin reported that local jobs increased 4% from 98,594 to 100,605 in the budget discussion Tuesday. The update (from the SCV Economic Development Corp.) highlighted growth in health care (and manufacturing) across the city.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The California Department of Education announced that seven Santa Clarita Valley schools are among 408 recognized for the 2026 California Distinguished Schools honors. The awards will be celebrated at Disneyland Hotel on April 24.  SCVNews.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The I-5 North County Enhancement Project began reconstructing the southbound Hasley Canyon Road on-ramp in Castaic and will keep it closed continuously through April. Metro’s contractor OHLA-USA is handling excavation, paving (with intermittent lane closures 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.) and installing guardrails while enforcing a 55 mph speed limit.  Hometown Station

  • Pelona Hills at Sand Canyon will hold its grand opening on Saturday, March 28 at 16255 Rochester Court with tours of three furnished model homes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Buyers can purchase homes for a summer move-in and enjoy treats plus discount coupons from nearby vendors.  SCVNews.com

  • College of the Canyons baseball wrapped its three-game series with an 18-2 win over West L.A. College at Mike Gillespie Field on March 7, with an eight-run inning that ended comeback hopes.  SCVNews.com
