EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teams from the Hart district—including Saugus, Golden Valley, and West Ranch—competed in the Academic Decathlon regionals focused on the Roaring ’20s. Saugus finished 11th out of 72 teams while senior Owen Higgins earned a bronze medal in science, highlighting the team’s shared love of learning.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Local Saugus High junior Aaryan Patel was accepted into MIT’s six-week Research Science Institute starting in June (where mentors from top universities guide students in independent STEM research) and he will use computational biology to improve drug design in honor of his late grandfather.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The 14th Annual Hart Games will be held at Valencia High School Stadium on Monday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., organized by Adapted Physical Education Department — 350 special education students from 11 schools will compete in track and field events; free admission is offered.  SCVNews.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • KHTS Radio is taking local leaders to the State Capitol today and Tuesday on its 17th Sacramento Road Trip to meet with lawmakers and discuss issues like education, water and infrastructure. The bipartisan delegation includes business owners, nonprofit representatives and elected officials from across the valley.  Hometown Station

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jack Anderson of TMU placed second in the men’s 3000m on Saturday, March 7 in Gainesville (Fla.) with an 8:03 finish that broke his old school record, earning All-American honors. TMU will compete at the Occidental Spring Break and Distance Classic in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 14.  SCVNews.com
