  • Gloria Locke created an art exhibit featuring illustrations of Black trailblazers and a book to honor local leaders.   • The Santa Clarita Film Office said five productions began filming Monday, Mar. 2 and will continue in the valley through Sunday, Mar. 8, including NCIS: Origins (a prequel about Gibbs’ early career).  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from the William S. Hart Union High School District earned top honors at the L.A. County Academic Decathlon on March 3 at an awards banquet aboard the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach. Saugus High led the district — top students earned Gold, Silver and Bronze in 10 subjects.  Hometown Station

  • WalletHub reported that Santa Clarita residents hold the sixth most credit cards per person in the nation, highlighting a distinct local financial trend.  SCVNews.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and L.A. County Fire Department responded on Tuesday at La Mesa Junior High School in Canyon Country to a medical call for a 13-year-old student found unconscious; Narcan was given as a precaution and officials confirmed the student was breathing when transported.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • Canyons track teams recorded nearly 40 personal bests at the Cuyamaca Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 28, with the women’s squad earning its first win and the men’s finishing second. The Cougars — eager for more — will compete at the Ben Brown Invitational on Friday, March 13.  SCVNews.com
  • The Master’s University men's basketball team overcame a 17-point deficit to win the GSAC championship 77-74 at The MacArthur Center on Monday, March 2 (Quincy Phillips scored 26 of his 28 points as head coach Kelvin Starr praised the team's resilience).  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita Christian’s Jacob Trosper struck out 12 + hit a home run in a 5-1 win over the Vasquez Mustangs during the Heritage League opener on Monday at the William S. Hart Baseball Complex.   • Valencia wrestlers Slater Hicks (who placed second in the 132-pound bracket) and Tigran Greyan, finishing seventh in the 165-pound division, earned state medals at CIF championships over the weekend and helped secure the Coastal Canyon League title as the Vikings ended a historic season.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
