COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lacy, a 6-year-old German Shepherd weighing 93 pounds, is ready for adoption at Castaic Animal Care Center. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 31044 Charlie Canyon Rd.  Hometown Station
  • On May 16, the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society will lead a tour of the 1928 St. Francis Dam site, starting with a 10:30 a.m. talk at the Newhall Family Theatre and a bus ride to view dam remains plus expert insights.   • St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Canyon Country hosted the 48th Annual Lenten Fish Fry yesterday, Feb. 20, serving fish and chips plus an expanded menu while parish volunteers managed hospitality. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Clarita parents can join a Zoom session hosted by Parenting for Prevention on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 6 to 7 p.m. where former gang member and youth mentor Ramses Mayorga will share his story about overcoming peer pressure — providing practical advice to help parents spot early warning signs.  Hometown Station
  • Valencia Library will host Teen Library Eats: Donuts on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The event will offer teens a fun opportunity to enjoy donuts and socialize in the library setting.  SCVNews.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city is hiring over 80 staff for Camp Clarita Summer 2026, including counselors, recreation leaders, and assistant camp directors for programs for children ages 3-12 (applications are due by April 22 at noon), with training starting June 8 and camp running from June 15 to Aug. 7.  SCVNews.com
  • LASD restored full 9-1-1 service in Santa Clarita at 7:20 a.m. Friday after a power outage disrupted calls for over 12 hours; the call platform began reconnecting around 3 a.m. Friday while officials work with the provider to prevent future outages.  Hometown Station
