- ➤ Santa Clarita residents enjoy a busy weekend with events scheduled: the Soup for the Soul Gala at SCV Senior Center on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., Swan Lake at the Performing Arts Center on Friday at 7 p.m., and a rain barrel program at Newhall Community Center on Saturday morning. Hometown Station
- ➤ On Valentine’s Day, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 carrying 24 Starlink satellites from Vandenberg, and residents in Santa Clarita spotted the rocket over Ventura County. The satellites were deployed over the Pacific and Atlantic, while a second mission on President’s Day sent 29 satellites from Cape Canaveral. Hometown Station
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Feb. 18, 1981, a spark from a painter's torch burned down the Piru Mansion, leaving only floor tiles, stone work, part of a tower, and chimneys. It was rebuilt by replicating original materials and now serves as an event venue & private vacation rental. Hometown Station
- ➤ Women in Santa Clarita will gather on March 7 at 10 a.m. at JC in Me in Downtown Newhall for a morning of encouragement featuring Dr. Deonne Johnson, who will deliver an uplifting talk and sign copies of her book From Tired to Inspired, with light refreshments provided. SCVNews.com
- ➤ The SCV Lunar New Year Gala was held on Sunday, Feb. 15 at Newhall Family Theatre and attracted over 450 attendees with traditional dance, music and cultural displays — more than 100 performers featured demonstrations. Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo presented a Certificate of Recognition to celebrate the region’s growing Asian heritage. SCVNews.com

- ➤ College of the Canyons earned the Bee Campus USA designation as the only community college in Southern California — a move that recognizes its long-term efforts to protect pollinators with native plants and less pesticide use and will expand hands-on research and community programs on campus. - ➤ Representative George Whitesides presented a $1 million grant to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station to fund a new mobile command center that will use satellite communications + real-time data to aid first responders. The center is set for development over six months to a year and aims to improve emergency responses in the valley. Hometown Station
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Golden Valley's season ended after the Grizzlies lost 56-53 to Warren in a tight CIF-SS quarterfinal on Feb. 18 at home — the loss capped a season that saw them win the Foothill League title for the first time in over a decade. Hometown Station
