  • The SCV Senior Center renamed its Celebrity Waiter Dinner to the Golden Gala for its 50th Anniversary with the theme All that Glitters is Gold; the event takes place Saturday, April 25 in the Bella Vida Courtyard + Grand Ballroom with live music and a auction to support its programs.  SCVNews.com
  • Local nonprofits nominated volunteers for the 2026 Man & Woman of the Year Awards, with honorees to be announced at the gala in the Hyatt Regency Valencia Grand Ballroom on Friday, May 1 — table sales, sponsorships, and ads open March 5.  Hometown Station

  • The Santa Clarita Film Office released a weekly schedule showing that seven productions are filming in the valley from Feb. 2 to Feb. 8, with projects (including TV shows, commercials, shorts, and online content) set to boost local business and highlight our film-friendly sites.  SCVNews.com
  • World Ballet Company will present Swan Lake at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.—tickets cost between $50 and $115. The performance features over 150 hand-sewn costumes and hand-painted sets and runs 2 hr 30 min with a 20-min intermission.  SCVNews.com
  • On Feb. 2, 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican-American War and transferred Santa Clarita Valley from Mexican control to the United States (Fremont had once camped in the valley during the conflict).  Hometown Station
  • Santa Clarita hosts its 30th Annual Cowboy Festival at William S. Hart Park in Old Town Newhall with free western-themed activities for families and additional ticketed events.   • Sara Pennypacker, the New York Times bestselling author, visited Arroyo Seco Junior High on Monday to speak with students about reading, storytelling and her new historical fiction novel (The Lion’s Run) set in World War II France.  Hometown Station

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Master's University men's and women's track teams opened their 2026 indoor season at a tri-meet with Westmont and Vanguard on Jan. 31 in Santa Barbara — setting records in sprint and relay events — and they will compete on Feb. 7 at Claremont-Mudd Scripps College.  SCVNews.com
  • The SC Lady Flyers 12AA won the Western Girls Hockey League Championships on Sunday, Feb. 1 with a 1-0 overtime victory (the win came just days after an accident on Jan. 29 on I-70 that injured eight people and claimed a team member’s father).  SCVNews.com
  • Valencia beat West Ranch 73-69 Friday night in a close contest marked by several lead changes and a clutch free throw from Steven Irons that sealed the win. The victory kept Valencia in second place in the Foothill League before their game against Canyon on Monday at 6:30 p.m.  Hometown Station
