  • Planning for the 2026 Santa Clarita Walk to End Alzheimer’s began at a breakfast meeting at The Flying Yolk in Valencia with community members invited by the Alzheimer’s Association. The walk is set for Saturday, Oct. 3 — Bridgeport Park in Valencia.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Finally Family Homes opened its Oasis Resource Center in Newhall on Tuesday, Jan. 27 to support young adults aging out of foster care and facing homelessness.   • Cheryl Adams, a longtime community and business leader who helped shape local growth, died after battling Parkinson’s disease. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Jan. 28, 1954, the Bermite Powder Company plant in Saugus exploded as workers returned from lunch at 12:58 p.m., killing four female employees and injuring 14—a moment marked in local history.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local events in Santa Clarita offer theaters, tech meetups, and family fun this week. Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific will begin Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at Canyon Theatre Guild — while a family day at VT Ranch is planned for Feb. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Hometown Station
  • The Department of Parks and Recreation hosts free Lunar New Year celebrations in 59 parks from Feb. 12 to Feb. 28, featuring lion and dragon dances, cultural music, food tastings, and interactive arts and crafts (for families) as communities welcome the Year of the Horse.  SCVNews.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brooklyn Covington at Valencia High became one of 71 high school semifinalists chosen for The Music Center’s Spotlight program. The selected students will attend a mastery class before their final auditions for the Grand Finale on Saturday, May 16 at the Ahmanson Theatre.  SCVNews.com
  • Valencia High School’s Air Force JROTC program earned an 'Exceeds Standards' rating after its Jan. 14 assessment by the William S. Hart Union High School District. Cadets Sophia Nabiev (Valencia) and Weston Michel (Saugus) received special recognition for their leadership and performance from a group of local schools.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Amber Feldman, a social studies teacher at Saugus High School, has been named the Hart District Teacher of the Year for 2026/27.   • On Saturday, Feb. 28, from 5-8 p.m., the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge No. 2379 hosts Crab Fest Fundraiser to support Samuel Dixon Family Health Center's care for children and families.   • Golden Valley remained atop the Foothill League with a 62-48 win over Hart — Alex Villejo reached 1,000 points while Valencia climbed to second with an 86-47 win over Castaic; both teams face a close finish with three games left.  Hometown Station
  • The Hart Hawks won a crucial league game (Jan. 27) against the Golden Valley Grizzlies at Golden Valley High School after back-to-back losses, with coach Zach Koebel saying the team's strong defense and fast transition boosted their playoff hopes as they prepare for a home game against Saugus on Friday.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
