  • Finally Family Homes seeks volunteers for its Oasis Resource Center to support young adults in our community. The center is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. at 23120 Lyons Ave., Unit 19, Newhall and offers flexible shifts for individuals aged 14 and up.  SCVNews.com
  • Santa Clarita offers many volunteer opportunities for residents to help with events and community projects starting this new year. Local activities include festival support, neighborhood clean-ups and year-round projects that keep parks, libraries and trails in top shape.  SCVNews.com
  • The College of the Canyons Foundation named Ed Masterson the recipient of the 2026 Silver Spur Community Service Award for his longstanding support of local nonprofits and educational institutions.   • On Jan. 26, 1990, CalArts dean Mel Powell premiered Duplicates: A Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra with the Los Angeles Philharmonic — a milestone later linked to a Pulitzer Prize win. His legacy lives on through the Mel Powell Chair at CalArts.  Hometown Station

  • Hart District’s Got Talent Variety Showcase is accepting audition submissions until Friday, Jan. 30 at 10 p.m. — open to students, teachers and administrators — and will take place on Feb. 27 at Saugus High School Performing Arts Center; general tickets cost $15, VIP $25, and students pay $10 with ID.  SCVNews.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior Avery Jackson scored a season-high 45 points as the Mustangs beat Park Gilbert 116-99 at the MacArthur Center on Thursday, Jan. 22. The win gave TMU sole possession of first place in the conference ahead of their next game against Benedictine Mesa.  SCVNews.com
  • Valencia Vikings bounced back with a 65-50 road win over the Saugus Centurions Friday at Saugus High School; head coach Greg Fontenette said a team dinner built team spirit (after recent losses and injuries).
