  • The City of Santa Clarita hosted its fifth annual MLK Day Walk on Monday morning to honor Dr. King’s legacy, featuring youth performances & an MLK Essay Contest launch by the local school district as community and religious leaders delivered messages of unity.  Hometown Station
  • Newhall Community Center marks 20 years with a free outdoor celebration featuring live mariachi music and art activities on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 22421 Market St. in Newhall (honoring local traditions).  SCVNews.com
  • The City of Santa Clarita will break ground on Via Princessa Park tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Via Princessa Metrolink Station (19201 Via Princessa); the park will feature multi-sport fields, pickleball courts, a nature-themed playground, and a pedestrian tunnel to boost community outdoor access.  Hometown Station

  • Santa Clarita families can shake up their weekend routine by visiting The Broad in downtown Los Angeles. The museum displays modern art from the 1950s with Robert Therrien’s exhibit running Nov. 22-Apr. 5 and will debut Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind in spring (a striking blend of art and design).  Hometown Station

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Friday evening, Golden Valley named its gym after longtime principal Sal Frias to honor his 19 years of service — officials and family attended the event just before the basketball game against West Ranch.  Hometown Station
  • Hart District officials announced that Collyn Nielsen was honored as the 2026 Negotiator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators at the ACSA Negotiator’s Symposium on Jan. 20 + he was recognized for balancing fiscal responsibility with strong support for staff and students.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caltrans announced lane closures on I-5 near Castaic for pavement rehabilitation from Jan. 20 to Jan. 23 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), with one lane in each direction and the southbound Templin Highway off ramp closed, subject to weather or material changes.  Hometown Station
  • On Jan. 16, Supervisor Kathryn Barger renamed the Castaic Sports Complex after Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, who died in the line of duty in Sept. 2023 (a local fourth-generation officer). The county also announced a scholarship to fund youth programs at the complex.  SCVNews.com
