  • Academy of the Canyons junior Diya Boini held a December food drive that collected about 1,200 pounds of food for the SCV Food Pantry. Her efforts, supported by community donations that filled her garage, pave the way for more drives ahead.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The City of Santa Clarita will break ground on Via Princessa Park at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 in the parking lot of the Via Princessa Metrolink Station. The new park will offer multi-sport fields, pickleball courts and a treehouse playground for residents.  SCVNews.com
  • Kindred Spirits Wine Bar will host a ribbon cutting (4:30 to 5 p.m.) on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 24510 Town Center Drive, #120 in Valencia to mark its new opening for local wine lovers.  SCVNews.com
  • Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo is hosting the Third Annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Vallet Boys and Girls Club Thomas E.   • A Valencia aerospace company in Valencia was evacuated on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. after first responders reported a hazardous material spill at the 25000 block of Avenue Stanford — firefighters were investigating the unknown substance and no injuries were reported.  Hometown Station

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The nearly 140-year-old Saugus Café is set to reopen Monday, Jan. 19 at 5 a.m. under new ownership by Eduardo Reyna of Dario’s Mexican Restaurant after extensive cleaning and repairs (including repainting and kitchen sanitizing) met health standards, with plans to serve its classic menu alongside a few Mexican dishes.  Hometown Station

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sam Shepard’s dark comedy Curse of the Starving Class, presented by Eclipse Theatre LA, will run weekends from Jan. 23-Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. at The MAIN (24266 Main).  SCVNews.com
  • The Rancho Camulos reenactment returns on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. in Piru, where audiences can step back in time to 1882 & witness Helen Hunt Jackson's visit that inspired her famous novel Ramona.  SCVNews.com
  • The city invites Santa Clarita artists to submit original sculpture designs to the 2026 Temporary Trailhead Project (application deadline Jan. 26) that reflect our open spaces and local landscape.   • Local students earned academic honors during fall 2025 and summer 2025 at several colleges, with SNHU naming three students to its dean's list (Stephanie Reese, Emerson Nacino, Corey Lollar), UMGC graduating two locals (Layla Monterroso, Chad Mitchell), and Belmont announcing honors for local students.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • Adidas surprised the Saugus girls’ basketball team with new uniforms and gear on Wednesday night—making them one of only nine high school programs nationwide in this test initiative. The team will debut the gear tonight against Castaic.  Hometown Station
