- ➤ On January 8, 1869, local entrepreneurs Henry Clay Wiley, Sanford Lyon and William W. Jenkins began drilling the first oil well in Pico Canyon, sparking Santa Clarita’s early role in California's oil industry. Hometown Station
- ➤ Santa Clarita native Austin Kolodney saw his film poster for Dead Man’s Wire (a crime thriller) at Regal Edwards Valencia on Jan. 2 and included local Easter eggs in the dialogue to honor his hometown. The film is now in theaters nationwide. The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

- ➤ William Jones Jr. of the Castaic girls flag football program was named CIF Southern Section Girls Flag Football Coach of the Year by the Los Angeles Rams after his team’s inaugural season ended. The award includes a $4,000 check to help purchase uniforms, footballs & equipment. Hometown Station
