COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city will host its 5th annual MLK Day Unity Walk on Monday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. at Central Park, where local youth will perform and Hart Union High School District students will read an essay while attendees bring donations for Bridge to Home (a homeless service provider).  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Local nonprofit FYI is holding a training session to recruit volunteer Allies for foster youth aging out of the foster care system. The event will be held on Jan. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at the Fellowship Center at Christ Lutheran Church in Valencia.  Hometown Station
  • The Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency has launched the SCV Water Gardening Club, a year-long series of expert-led workshops on water-wise gardening. The program kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9 to 11 a.m. at 23780 Pine St. in Newhall (registration is open).  SCVNews.com
  • Old Town Newhall Public Library will host Teen Game Day (Escape Room) on Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at 24500 Main St., where local teens can solve puzzles and connect with peers.  SCVNews.com

  • On January 7, 1929, Wyatt Earp wrote his final letter to friend William S. Hart and it is now preserved at the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall (this letter offers a unique glimpse into local Western heritage).  Hometown Station
  • The city is now accepting entries for two sculptural pieces for its temporary public art program, which will be installed along the trail system for a three-year rotation with a $5,000 honorarium for each selected artist.   • On Jan. 6, The Master's University men's basketball team lost 81-80 to Hope International after a late collapse erased a six-point lead. The Mustangs will host Embry-Riddle Eagles at 7:30 p.m. today at The MacArthur Center.  SCVNews.com
  • Castaic girls' flag football head coach William Jones was named 2025 LA Rams Coach of The Year at a Rams game on Sunday. He led the Coyotes to a 15-11 season and their first playoff berth with an 8-6 league record, and his honor came with a $4,000 donation per finalist (a shared team achievement).  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • Golden Valley stayed unbeaten in Foothill League play with a 70-49 win over Canyon on Tuesday; Trinity Classical and SCCS are set to seek wins in Heritage League play as Trinity plays Thursday at 7 p.m. & SCCS heads to the court Friday at 6:30 p.m.  Hometown Station
  • College of the Canyons offensive lineman TJ Taylor was named to the Region III All-State Team and was also selected unanimously for the SCFA National Division Central League First-Team during the 2025 season. He signed with the University of Illinois on Dec. 3 after two seasons with the Cougars.  SCVNews.com
  • On Saturday, Jan. 3, College of the Canyons recorded a 78-64 win over L.A. Pierce with standout performances from freshman center Craig Irons (17 points) and Dwayne Boston Jr., giving the Cougars their sixth win in seven games before a conference road tilt on Jan. 7.  SCVNews.com
