The 14th annual Polar Plunge took place Saturday morning at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center under rainy skies, inviting children and adults to plunge into 45 degree water to celebrate the new year.

Complimentary hot chocolate, snacks and free beach towels for the first 100 participants warmed up the brave crowd.

On January 3, 2004, NASA’s Spirit rover landed in Gusev Crater on Mars after a challenging descent — local experts like Stevenson Ranch’s Wayne Lee helped design the landing system.
