  • Councilwoman Marsha McLean announced capital improvements in Santa Clarita, including The Rink Sports Pavilion at George A.   • In 1855, the American Land Commission confirmed the 48,612-acre Rancho San Francisco to Jacoba Feliz, widow of Antonio del Valle. This historic decision marked an important milestone in our region's past.  SCVNews.com
  • Princess Cruises, based on Town Center Drive, displayed its new float at the 137th Rose Parade on Jan. 1. The float celebrated the debut of its Star Princess ship and its upcoming Alaska cruises with over 300,000 local florals and animated wildlife designs.  SCVNews.com
  • The Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival is calling for western gear and food vendors for its 30th anniversary on April 18 and 19 (applications are due Monday, Feb. 2).  SCVNews.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A prolonged storm system is forecast to hit Santa Clarita Valley starting Friday night with intermittent heavy rain through Monday, compounding already saturated ground from New Year’s rainfall. The National Weather Service warns the additional rain may trigger flooding & mudslides, especially in low-lying areas.  Hometown Station

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Santa Clarita Valley Groundwater Sustainability Agency is hosting a virtual workshop to review its Periodic Evaluation of the Groundwater Sustainability Plan for the Santa Clara River Valley East Groundwater Subbasin on Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 6–7:30 p.m. via Zoom; a follow-up session is set for Wednesday, Feb. 4.  SCVNews.com
  • Bob Purvis was named captain of the CHP Newhall-Area Office on January 1, 2026, replacing longtime officer Ed Krusey after a 31 year tenure. Purvis, who began his CHP career in 2002 (and has held several key roles), is set to lead community safety efforts in Santa Clarita.  Hometown Station
