COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Santa Clarita invites residents to join the annual Polar Plunge at the Aquatic Center, where participants will walk, wade or plunge into 45° water at the Waterslide Pool. The event takes place Saturday, Jan. 3 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and offers free beach towels, hot chocolate, coffee and donuts.  Hometown Station
  • Fostering Youth Independence hosted FYI's Charlie Brown Holiday Party recently in Santa Clarita, where dozens of foster youth and volunteers enjoyed breakfast, a cardboard doghouse contest for Snoopy, a visit from Santa Claus, and received a stocking and a bag of community-donated gifts.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal
  • The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry announced its new executive board for 2026 to continue providing food help in the community.   • The Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club spread holiday cheer this season at clubhouses in Canyon Country, Newhall, Val Verde, and Castaic by hosting gift events and teen-led volunteer projects at Valencia Town Center and a local senior center, where children met Santa and enjoyed hot chocolate.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

  • A local nonprofit, Press Paws Ranch Retreat (an animal therapy group), is calling for donations and skilled volunteers after its animal enclosures were damaged by a storm last week.   • Valencia High School’s acclaimed vocal jazz ensemble Two N’ Four is set to perform at the 2026 Jazz Education Network International Conference in New Orleans this January and is launching a $7,500 fundraiser for airfare (the group has recently performed at local events and seeks community donors).  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

George Whitesides announced winners of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge in the local district — the MathViz team led by Academy of the Canyons’ student Gautham Korrapati and Eric Lee earned praise for their AI-powered math app, with experts from education and tech evaluating entries.  The Santa Clarita Valley Signal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tuesday, Dec. 31 at the Newhall Church of the Nazarene, Trinity Classical Academy ended its four-day Reason for the Season Tournament where West Ranch Wildcats edged Burbank Bulldogs 57-55 in the Silver Division and Granada Hills beat Trinity 49-46 for the Gold Division title.  Hometown Station
  • The Master's University men's basketball team lost 75-70 to the Florida Memorial Lions in a tight contest at The MacArthur Center on Dec. 30. The Mustangs battled with Quincy Phillips scoring 20 and Caden DeVries making 18 points as they prepare for their final home game before conference play.  SCVNews.com
