Glendale Youth Orchestra presents "My Country 'Tis of Thee"

About this event

The Glendale Youth Orchestra takes the stage at the historic Alex Theatre for "My Country 'Tis of Thee," a concert celebrating America's 250th year. Led by Music Director and Conductor Henry Shin, the orchestra brings together young musicians ages 10 to 23 from across Los Angeles County. It's an inspiring evening for families, especially kids who play an instrument or are curious about joining an orchestra someday.

The program spotlights American voices, old and new. The centerpiece is Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World," a sweeping piece many listeners will recognize, along with Leonard Bernstein's energetic Overture to West Side Story. Watching performers close to their own age handle such big music can be a real spark for young audience members.

Tickets are budget friendly, making this a great way to introduce your family to live classical music without a big price tag. The 6 p.m. Sunday start works well for school nights, and the Alex Theatre's grand, vintage setting on Brand Boulevard adds to the sense of occasion. Plan to grab dinner nearby in downtown Glendale before or after the show.
