About this event
Artists in late medieval and early Renaissance Northern Europe combined symbolic meaning with narratives of domestic intimacy to present the Holy Family as a relatable model. Shaped by religious texts that characterized Joseph as a loving and active provider, the popularity of these tender images went "viral" through the 15th and early 16th centuries. Two experts in northern Renaissance art, Maryan Ainsworth and Thomas Kren, join Getty curators Elizabeth Morrison and Anne Woollett to discuss the artistic innovations, cultural influences, and exchange of ideas between panel painting and manuscript illumination. ️ To watch online or attend in person at the Getty Center, get tickets here: https://www.getty.edu/calendar/holy-family-viral/ Once you register, you'll receive an email detailing how to join online. Tickets are free, but required for event entrance. Your event ticket will also serve as your Center entrance reservation. Please note, there is a fee for parking.
