Public Star Party at Griffith Observatory

About this event

Griffith Observatory opens its telescopes to everyone for a free Public Star Party, and the whole afternoon and evening is set up for curious kids and the grown-ups who love them. Volunteer astronomers help families peer through powerful telescopes at the Moon, planets and other sky sights, with plenty of patient explaining along the way.

Because the party runs from afternoon into the night, your family can ease in: explore the observatory's exhibits and rooftop views while it is still light, then settle in for stargazing as the sky darkens. Telescope viewing continues until 9:45 PM, so even slow starters get a turn.

Little astronomers tend to get restless in a line, so bring a jacket, a snack plan and some patience. Saturdays at Griffith draw crowds, and an early arrival makes the telescope lines and the parking hunt a lot easier.
