Art Break: An Ancient Beauty Contest Through a New Lens

About this event

A remarkable Athenian pelike (storage jar) at the Getty Villa depicts the famous beauty contest that started the Trojan War. When the ancient terracotta vase was de-installed to be photographed recently, the process of innovative, high-resolution imaging led to new insights about the vessel’s decoration and the artistic process of the ancient artist. Getty’s imaging manager Tahnee Cracchiola and art historian Will Austin discuss their findings. RSVP to receive the Zoom link at https://www.getty.edu/calendar/art-break-beauty-contest
