Writing for Strings

Price: $500 $250

Dive into the world of string writing with this 2 day program exploring string ensemble writing. The course will look at writing for the blank page, adaptation, and writing arrangements for scores and songs. We'll explore the different kinds of ensembles, the roles of each instrument, standard & extended techniques, idiomatic writing, getting the most of your players, and making your mockups sound great.

Throughout the course we will create a brand new piece, and adapt an existing song or piece of music to create a string quartet or quintet version.

By the end of this workshop, you'll have new practical technical knowledge for string writing, an understanding of how string ensembles work, new confidence in writing for strings, and brand new original pieces. Whether you're looking to enhance your existing skills, or writing for strings for the first time, this course will help you enhance your writing and get prepared for the next Night Temple String Quintet Night! Join us and start making powerful string arrangements and new original pieces.
