About this event
Franklin Canyon is a unique spot to explore birdlife across both chaparral and riparian habitats. The walk follows an easy dirt trail along with portions of paved road leading up into an oak woodland.
Participants can expect to see Acorn Woodpeckers, Spotted Towhees, various warblers, California Quail, Common Ravens, and Hermit Thrushes, just to name a few. Pied-billed Grebes, American Coots, Mallards, and Green Herons are regular residents of the lake and pond, and other local wildlife like deer, coyotes, and rabbits often make an appearance.
We will meet in the parking lot next to the nature center (restrooms are available) and begin our walk promptly at 8:00 AM. All birding levels are welcome!
Note : Walks may occasionally be canceled due to inclement weather. If you’re unsure whether a walk is taking place, please contact Walk Leader Paula Orlovich at (747) 237-3720.
Directions : From the San Fernando Valley, take the Ventura Freeway (101) or Ventura Blvd. to Coldwater Canyon Blvd. Head south to the intersection of Coldwater Canyon and Mulholland Drive. Make a 90-degree right turn onto Franklin Canyon Drive.
